The definition of the word lord is someone or something having power, authority, or influence; a master or ruler. Another definition says a ruler by hereditary right or preeminence to whom service and obedience are due. Now, with that being said, here's the verse that prompted this blog post: "Why do you cal me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do what I tell you? Luke 6:46
While I was driving either to or from work Friday, I was listening to KLOVE on my radio and this was the verse of the day. They didn't elaborate on it or anything, just said the verse and went on with playing some Kari Jobe song or something. But that verse stuck with me all afternoon and all weekend, and here I am on Monday afternoon, 3 days later, still stuck with this verse tugging at me.
Like the definition says, a lord is someone with POWER and INFLUENCE, to whom SERVICE and OBEDIENCE are due. We as Christians call Jesus the Lord of our lives, but do we really, truly make Him the Lord of our lives? Do we let Him have power and influence over us? Do we serve Him and obey His commands? If we want to truly call Him Lord, we have to treat Him as one.
A lot of us, including me, pick and choose what part of the Bible we want to read and quote and live by. Jesus said to worship the Lord and serve Him only (Matthew 4:10) and to acknowledge Jesus before men (Matthew 10:32) and those are some things I really try to do well on a daily basis, but Jesus also told us to love our enemies (Luke 6:27-28) and to forgive those who sin against you (Matthew 6:14 & 18:35), but I just really don't want to do those things a lot of times.
But how can I truly call Jesus Lord if I don't give Him power and influence? How is He the Lord of my life when I don't serve or obey Him? Yes, Jesus is our friend (John 15:15), but he is also our Lord, our Authority, our Master, our Ruler. It's time that I start treating Him like the true Lord of my life.
